So you’re looking for a cute exotic dog but can’t decide which breed to get? There are many exotic or rare breeds; however, if you are looking for a cute dog, it would be best not to get one that is a puppy. All puppies are cute but some can grow up to be not so cute.
Besides that, if you get a puppy, you will have to house-train it. So the next best thing would be to get a dog that is about a year old, neutered or spayed with all the necessary shots, and house-trained. 8-Lagotto Romagnolo
The Logotto Romagnolo, usually referred to as Logotto, is one of the oldest and rarest breeds with only 500 registered in the US. They have been traced back as far as ancient Rome and bred primarily as a truffle-searching dog so they love to swim.
The Logotto has thick, dense, and curly waterproof hair that is hypoallergenic (minimal shedding) and can be white, gray, golden or dark brown. They are a small to medium sized dog that has sharp senses and are intelligent, loving, and loyal. They have a happy demeanor but are not recommended for apartment living as they need a lot of exercise.

The Coton is one of the cutest and rarest purebreds that got its start on the island of Madagascar more than three centuries ago and for many years were owned only by royalty. They were named Coton due to their cottony white fluffy coat and Tulear (or Toliara) due to where the breed originated. Coton’s are considered lap dogs as they love to snuggle. They are easy to train, obedient, and entertaining with cute puppy-like personalities that are slow to get angry and love to play. Cotons do not bark much except to warn you of visitors. The Puli came from Hungary over 1,000 years ago and originally used for sheep herding. This rare breed has been likened to a bouncing spring and is known for its unique outer coat that resembles dreadlocks, made of cord-like hair that grows after puppyhood. They can be in colors of black, gray and white with a medium, solid frame. Both their outer and undercoat need a lot of maintenance or it can be cut short. The Puli are affectionate, smart, and quick learners, as well as alert, making them wonderful watchdogs and family guardians. They have a strong temperament and will need vigorous exercise as they have a lot of energy to burn.

The Bearded Collie is also known as Beardie and one of the oldest Britain breeds being popular in Scotland used mostly for herding. The Beardie is medium sized and can be a variety of colors between white to black with a long shaggy coat that needs brushing every day and a clipping every other month. They are often referred to as having the “Beardie Bounce” due to their high-spirited, cheerful and carefree disposition that goes well with children and other pets. The Beardie’s friendly nature make them want to be around people so they don’t make them the best watchdog as they will want to play with anyone that comes around. They are obedient and trainable in a variety of dog sports.

The Berger is better known as Pyres and is terrier-like in personality with intelligence that needs an owner who will keep them challenged mentally by doing a lot of training and exercise. They are smaller to medium with different lengths of hair in various colors with some white on the face, which is easy to maintain with weekly brushing so mats don’t develop. The Pyres is very lively, bright, inquisitive, as well as alert and assertive making a good guard dog.

The Dandie Dinmont, also known as Dandie, is a natural born hunter originating in the 1700s from the England and Scotland border area. They are independent, vigilant, and sensitive yet a little stubborn so may be difficult to train without being consistent and firm. They are affectionate, happy, bold, and brave making great companions that get along with other dogs, children over ten, and cats if raised with them but may harm small pets like hamsters due to being bred for hunting vermin. Dandies need to be walked on a daily basis and brushed regularly as they do not shed. They can make good watchdogs but may continue to bark so proper training is a must with them.

The Chow Chow originates from ancient northern China and their name means food. They were originally bred to be hunters and today are well known for their blue-black tongue and adorable fuzzy lion-look due to the pronounced ruff around their neck. Chows are medium to large sized and are various colors but mostly a fawn color with a dense coat that may need professional care. They can be aloof, dignified, independent and proud with high intelligence. They make loyal companions and good guard dogs, especially for an experienced adult dog owner who knows how to show them who the boss is early on and who will give their Chow regular exercise.
